Presscott McDonald
Presscott was born in Brooklyn, New York to parents of Jamaican heritage in 1975. As he grew in New York, he quickly learned to pay attention to the life all around himself. He started to notice that even if you blink, you can easily miss the most amazing things. His Mother, Ms. Case, made certain to take him to as many museums, Broadway shows, and other various field trips to broaden his views of the world. She would travel with a 110 Kodak camera everywhere they went. Hating to be the subject in photographs, Presscott always opted to take them rather than be in them. Being an especially shy child while growing up was an issue for Presscott. However, with the camera around his neck he felt that it was infinitely easier to be confident and engage in everyone’s life.
At the age of thirteen, Presscott’s family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He was gifted his first camera, a Pentax K1000, at the age of fifteen. With no automatic features, this camera engaged him greatly. Entering his freshman year in High School, Presscott joined yearbook and newspaper. He won various awards in excellence with his work. By senior year, he became the youngest staff photographer at the Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
After he graduated from high school, Presscott attended Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia. During his junior year, he decided to take an offer for an internship in his birth place. It was with renowned photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Once in New York, he was instantly sucked into the hustle and bustle of the city. His love for the big apple proved to be too great to leave it again, and so he stayed.
After he assisted many well-known photographers, Presscott began shooting for numerous publications and celebrities. His client list consists of Vibe, NIKE, 50 Cent, Kimora Lee Simmons, and the cast of HBO’s show “The Wire” to name a few.
Presscott’s current personal work is exploring some of the most unnoticed social activities and behavior that John Q Public seems to miss on a daily basis.
